Note: On June 21, 2005, the United States and Vietnam signed a bilateral agreement on intercountry adoption. The current Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the United States and Vietnam expired on September 1, 2008. As a result, intercountry adoption is suspended until a new MOA is signed and implemented.
If a child had been referred to a family by September 1, 2008 and approved by the Vietnam Department of International Adoptions, the adoption can proceed to completion. New applications for adoption are not currently being accepted. Please continue to check back for the most up to date information on interncountry adoption from Vietnam.
In 2010, U.S. citizens adopted approximately 9 children from Vietnam. Children available for adoption include infants from 6 months of age, older and special needs children; more boys than girls. The children reside in orphanages.
